Custom Neon Sign Price Guide (2026): What to Expect and Why

By the Best Buy Neon Signs Team | June 2026 | Updated regularly

"How much does a custom neon sign cost?"

It's the most common question we get — and the honest answer is: it depends on more variables than most people expect. This guide breaks down every factor that affects custom neon sign pricing so you know exactly what you're paying for.

Price Ranges at a Glance

Sign Type Size Typical Price Range
Small personal/home sign Up to 12" wide $97–$250
Medium personal/event sign 12–24" wide $200–$450
Medium business sign 24–36" wide $350–$700
Large business/storefront sign 36–60" wide $600–$1,200
Extra-large or complex sign 60"+ or multi-color $1,000–$3,000+
Glass neon (any size) Any Add 50–100% to LED pricing

These are ranges for LED neon. Prices vary by number of characters, font complexity, add-ons, and turnaround time.

The 6 Factors That Determine Your Price

1. Size

The single biggest driver of price. Larger signs require more LED flex material, larger acrylic backboards, heavier packaging, and higher shipping costs. A 12" sign and a 48" sign can easily differ by 4–5× in price even with identical designs.

2. Number of characters and font complexity

In professional neon production, price is partly based on the amount of material required to produce your letters. Script and cursive fonts require more flex tubing than block fonts because of the connected, flowing letterforms. A complex script "Open" sign uses more material than a simple block-letter version at the same width.

3. Number of colors

Single-color signs are the most affordable. Each additional color requires a separate LED flex strip run, which adds to material and labor cost. Multi-color signs or RGB (color-changing) options add $50–$150 or more depending on complexity.

4. Backing and mounting

Standard clear acrylic backboard — included in most prices. You see the wall through the sign.

Black acrylic backing — popular for bars and moody aesthetics. Small upcharge.

Cut-to-letter (floating letters) — the backing is cut to the shape of each letter, so only the neon is visible, not the backboard. Premium option, adds $50–$200.

Stand/base — for tabletop or freestanding use. Adds ~$29.

Hanging kit — for suspended installation. Adds ~$20.

5. Rush vs. standard production

Standard production is 7–10 business days. Rush production moves your sign to the front of the line for delivery in under 10 days. Rush fees typically add 20–40% to the sign price depending on how fast you need it.

6. Glass vs. LED neon

Traditional glass neon is 50–100% more expensive than LED neon of equivalent size, and requires ongoing maintenance. For most applications, LED is the better value — and on camera, the difference is negligible.

Real Pricing Examples

A restaurant "Open" sign (18" wide, single color, standard backing): LED neon: ~$197–$280

"Joe's Bar & Grill" logo sign (36" wide, two colors, clear acrylic backing): LED neon: ~$450–$650

Wedding "Mr & Mrs" script sign (48" wide, single color, cut-to-letter backing): LED neon: ~$550–$750

Corporate logo sign for office lobby (60" wide, brand colors, black backing): LED neon: ~$900–$1,400

Trade show tabletop sign with stand (24" wide, single color): LED neon: ~$250–$380 + $29 stand

Why Some Competitors Are Cheaper (and What You're Giving Up)

We're often asked why some online neon sign sellers offer signs at 40–60% lower prices. Here's what those prices usually reflect:

  • Visible LED dots — cheaper product that doesn't use uniform flex tubing. Looks good in photos edited specifically for listings; looks different in person.
  • Flickering on camera — a major issue for restaurants, social media content, and events.
  • Plexiglass backboards with visible glue marks and exposed cables.
  • No post-sale support — no repairs, no warranty support after 30–60 days.
  • Overseas shipping — 4–8 week lead times, high damage rates.

We've been making signs for McDonald's, NBC, and Levi's for 40+ years because our quality consistently holds up under professional conditions.
